Are top-tier fighters truly happy with their placement on the UFC 310 card? One former champion isn’t convinced.
Matt Brown, a veteran MMA fighter himself, believes Aljamain Sterling and Chris Weidman are feeling demoted due to their positioning on the card. “The biggest difference is when you’re on the main card, there’s more crowd there and that’s what we all want,” he explained in an episode of “The Fighter vs. The Writer.” He continued: “We all want to be in front of more people, a louder crowd. I feel way more comfortable in front of the biggest crowd than kind of scattered, empty seats and people kind of cheering and going to get their beers and getting settled in, people walking in as you’re fighting, things like that.”
Brown’s prediction? Sterling and Weidman are feeling demoted. He added, “I guarantee. I feel that way when I’d get put on the prelims. Like I’m demoted, like you don’t care about me as much. Like you think I’m on my way out. You’re not moving me up the card towards the main event. That’s where we all want to be.”
Despite his placement on the UFC 310 prelims, Sterling has a crucial featherweight matchup against Movsar Evloev. As it stands now, Sterling is favored in the betting odds, and he faces a challenge as he aims to solidify his position within the weight class. Weidman, meanwhile, will face Eryk Anders in a rematch originally scheduled for UFC 310 back in November. Anders fell ill on fight night and forced the postponement of the bout.
