Does Cody Stamann have what it takes to claw his way back to the top?
Stamann’s two-fight losing streak is a shadow hanging over his career, casting doubt on whether he can escape its grip. He faces Da’Mon Blackshear at UFC Vegas 100, and the fight holds significance beyond mere competition.
Stamann acknowledges the stakes: “My job’s on the line.” This isn’t a formality; it’s a raw truth that fuels his training for this clash. The two have trained together in the past, their paths colliding amidst the crucible of combat preparation. Blackshear and Stamann share not just a physical connection but also a mutual understanding of each other’s fighting style.
“He trained in Las Vegas for a little while so we have trained together a few times,” Stamann confessed. “I know him and his style. I watched most of his UFC fights. I got the date, no opponent, then I found out it was him. Stylistically, I match better against Da’Mon Blackshear than Taylor Lapilus.” This realization fuels his fire, igniting a fight plan where their styles clash in a symphony of striking and grappling.
The pressure mounts on Stamann as he faces the do-or-die nature of this bout. He pushes the limits of his body and mind during training, his dedication unwavering in its intensity. “I have no illusions of the situation I put myself in,” Stamann declares. “I know what’s at stake, I know my job’s at stake.”
The weight of the fight seems to lift him. “I’m not taking any of that lightly, I’m 100% embracing this is a do-or-die moment for me and it’s going to come quickly,” he stated. This fight promises a relentless spectacle as they throw down their souls on the canvas.
Stamann looks at his opponent with an intensity that transcends mere competition; this is an opportunity, and an answer to his own doubts. “I’m expecting him to do the same, I think this is going to be an all-out war.”
If he wins, Stamann knows a path to redemption will open before him: “If it was up to me, I’d fight every two months. There are so many people at bantamweight now, I’ve tried to be a bantamweight and featherweight because there are more opportunities. But, I need an awesome performance on November 9 to do that.” He sees the future, not just in his present reality. He intends to show himself worthy of it all.
