Paige VanZant Returns to MMA with Global Fight League
Is this a strategic comeback, or a chance to reignite her passion for the sport?
The former UFC women’s strawweight contender Paige VanZant announced her return to MMA after signing with the team-based promotion, Global Fight League.
Global Fight League: A New Chapter in VanZant’s Career
“They are picking up anybody and everybody who has a name in this sport who is a free agent,” VanZant stated on her podcast earlier this week, “So, they offered me a contract, and I said yes. Going back to MMA. I think this is the perfect opportunity because I didn’t necessarily leave MMA. I definitely didn’t leave MMA because I wasn’t passionate about it anymore.”
VanZant’s move comes after a period of transition where she explored options outside the UFC, including bare-knuckle boxing. The challenge of this new arena invigorated her spirit.
Ready for a New Arena
“But leaving when I became a free agent outside the UFC, the biggest offer that came was in bare-knuckle boxing,” VanZant continued. “They were the ones. They presented the best offer to me, and it was exciting. It was new, and it definitely sparked my interest… Now, this new MMA organization, they made me really excited to fight for them.”
With Global Fight League set to kick off events in April, VanZant is poised to re-enter the combat world with renewed intensity.
