I was raised in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1974 I started my martial art training at the age of 13 years old in Jiu Jitsu at the local YMCA. I trained in this art for 3 years. My instructor moved and classes were closed. In 1977 I started training in Tae Kwon Do at age 16 years old. When I went to pharmacy school in 1980 at the University of Toledo, I started training in Hapkido. After pharmacy school I moved back to Cleveland in 1985 and eventually started teaching Tae Kwon Do at another instructor’s branch school. I moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1990 to get my Masters Degree in Hospital Pharmacy Administration from Ohio State University and enroll in an advanced practice 2 year pharmacy residency. Upon completing this program in 1992 I began teaching Hapkido in Columbus, Ohio. I have always been focused on the self defense aspects of the martial arts. I have attended numerous martial art seminars since 1992 and incorporated self defense aspects from other martial arts into my Hapkido program. I currently hold a 6th degree black belt in Hapkido and a 3rd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. The Jeet Kune Do philosophy of, take what works and discard what doesn’t, is the same philosophy that I was applying to the art of Hapkido. In 2011 I decided to change my focus to Jeet Kune Do and began studying under martial art legend Paul Vunak.
