John D. Nottingham Bio

John Nottingham, EPS is the founder of Nottingham Training Systems, Nottingham Security and the USA Martial Arts chain of schools.   He earned Certification as a Full Instructor in PFS Jeet Kune Do & Filipino Martial Arts with Sigung Paul Vunak. 

John is a graduate of Bodyguard Training International -  USA Bodyguards.  He was trained at Gavin De Becker Academy for Protectors and in Advanced Threat Assessment and Management.  A Sixth Degree multiple Black Belt holder he served in a Special Forces Airborne reserve unit as a Military Intelligence Analyst.  

Recognizing his unique background and passion for martial arts, his company commander tasked him with developing a military hand to hand – hand to weapon training program as part of an experimental Special Forces Unit PT program.  His emphasis on scientific analysis and reality based stress inoculation testing became a cornerstone of his ongoing research.  Collaborative research led him to SEAL team member Frank Cucci, the Gracies, Machados, Guru Dan Inosanto and eventually renowned street-fighting specialists Paul Vunak and Tom Cruse.

You may recognize him as the security expert on the news after 9-11 WTC attacks or from one of his many other public appearances.   A subject matter expert, consultant and professional speaker, he has appeared in publications and broadcasts, including: The Arizona Republic, Good Morning Arizona, Phoenix Gazette and AZ Channels 3, 5, 10 and 12 News.  Nationally and internationally he has appeared in TKD Times Magazine, on ESPN2, on news broadcasts in Korea, China and made some modest appearances in commercials and movies.
